It's Valentine's Day, and we've cooked up something special just for you. And no, it's not this unexpected special edition of The Shib — though if you've been following along, you know it wasn't exactly on our original menu.

Let's set the record straight up front: SHEboshis aren't just another pretty face in the world of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), nor are they simply female counterparts to the Shiboshis. These fierce ladies pack a punch with their distinctive abilities, making them the perfect partners your Shiboshis have been yearning for. 

As you may recall, the Shiboshis made their debut back in October 2021. This collection of 10,000 male characters swiftly flew off the shelves. (Talk about the power of the Shib Army!)

Now it is time for the SHEboshis to go under the arclights. We’ve stepped on the gas to launch a daring experiment aimed at exploring the untapped potential of the 404 Ethereum standard. So let's talk about that standard in detail.

A Word About ERC-404

ERC-404 is the latest buzz causing a stir in the blockchain universe. Imagine a world where ERC-20 and ERC-721 had a brainchild that inherited the best traits of both. This new experimental standard aims to bring a fresh twist to the token scene by marrying the concept of fungible tokens with non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The result is an experimental hybrid token standard that allows fractional ownership of NFTs, opening the floodgates to new possibilities. 

Though still in its infancy, this token standard addresses one of the major issues the NFT space is facing: liquidity. 

Minting Magic: Claim Your SHEboshi

Timing has proven to be everything for our holders, and the SHEboshis are the genesis of the next phase of Shib's NFTs. The only way to properly start this phase is with our first claimable set. That's right, we are making the set available to SHIboshi holders as a free claimable token/NFT. To do so, the team will do a snapshot highlighting the holders of Shiboshis over the past years, placing them into tiers based on factors like the number of Shiboshis held and length of time held to determine how many SHEboshis can be claimed per wallet. We think this is a fair way to do this drop and hope our community can hear us loud and clear. Woof! We expect this process to take a few days, resulting in the claim starting approximately this weekend and lasting 72 hours. So Shiboshi holders need to find your wallets! 

But wait, there's more. We haven't forgotten about Leash holders, and after the claim period has ended, we will allow $LEASH holders to get “1st dibs” on the remaining SHEboshis for 24 hours. After that, whatever is left (if any) will be released for public consumption until it gets sold out. 

After this entire process, and minting is complete, the NFT set will become available for trade on Uniswap and Shibaswap (1.0). (Note: As Shy points out in his accompanying article, both sets will be ported onto Shibarium shortly thereafter.) 

If you would like to get your hands on these lovely SHEboshis, strap in because minting is happening on the grand stage of the Ethereum network. Here's the lowdown: we're talking about minting some fresh, hot-off-the-press, exclusive NFTs using $ETH.

The decision to adopt the ERC-404 standard demonstrates our commitment to staying at the forefront of technology and ambition to rekindle the NFT market, which has experienced a downturn in trading volumes after its surge in popularity during the pandemic. 

What’s Next? 

There is more super-exciting stuff awaiting after the mint of the SHEboshis. Sometime down the line, you could let those Shiboshis and SHEboshis mate. We are talking of a heck of a lot of possibilities here. For now, let’s just say: “Watch this space!”

Here’s a heads-up on what is coming to Shibarium and how the burn proceeds will power our journey forward

So far in Q1 we have continued our strategy to make Shibarium the meme capital of the world while building what many call the “Network State” in perfect timing. Alongside incredible partners like D3 with our “*Shib” concept for a global Shib Name Service, advancements in our Metaverse with alignment to new technologies in the space, and AI upgrades with our partners at Bad Idea, we're just getting started in this amazing year. All very quietly. But not for long.

We will be launching a new experiment to test the 404 Eth Standard on Ethereum. We call this experiment THE SHEboshis, just in time for Valentine's Day. We won't speak about the future of this experiment but we are happy for the Shiboshis to finally get a companion and think things will progress nicely with this relationshib as we approach mating season later in the year. Since the 404 Standard is so new, this drop can be a bit confusing if you’ve never heard of how this NFT hybrid works, so pay close attention to our article in THE SHIB and upcoming blogs explaining how it works. Also note, we have taken into account the $LEASH holders (exclusivity, baby!) and Shiboshis as well in the design of the drop, making it a claimable for the latter and exclusive “1st dibs” for the prior. 

So if there’s an article with all the deets, what am I writing about? Just to give some basic details, dispel some FUD, and give some updates.

  1. Why on ETH? Simple. We hope this interesting experiment will help us capture liquidity on Eth for our loyal pack and bring it to Shibarium. To do so, shortly after the launch, SHEboshis alongside their companions, the Shiboshis, will be bridged to Shibarium. 
  2. Moreover, as part of the release of Shibaswap 1.5 (2.0 upgrade shortly thereafter) on Shibarium, we will find many other tokens and projects will be bridged to Shibarium with perfect timing. We have invited Shibarium tokens to this launch as well so that the entire system will launch in a similar fashion to Shibaswap 1.0. It's important to note our current progress on a few other things as well. 
  3. Shiba Eternity to Shibarium: The game is in the process of being upgraded to address bugs and cheater problems that some encountered on the iOS and Android versions. Due to the nature of the blockchain, and alongside a decentralized team of fans of the game, we are finalizing the design of unique play-to-earn or stake-to-earn opportunities for holders, artists, and players of the game. We believe this is the best opportunity for the long-term growth of the game. Barring any major issues, we expect beta to begin in the upcoming months. 
  4. Shibdentity: Shibdentity is the first step in a DAO that works properly because it has reputation, karma and therefore trust built in. Alongside the designs for the Hub, I've seen an early demo of Shidbentity currently working. No timeline for release just yet but this is exciting as many projects can move forward with Shibdentity in place. We believe here that again, building these many features for our state will help us shine in the next season (that quickly approaches). 

There’s so much more to discuss before I digress back into my meditative position. But two more things before I go.

What are we doing with the proceeds? We aren’t focusing this drop on making funds, and instead would love ALL the NFTs to be claimed. But in case some are sold, here’s the plan. Now that we have the proper setup and structure in place, we believe the following works best:

Finally, I wanted to dedicate this drop to my last remaining parent who will be placed in hospice shortly. For those of you who have been here long enough, you already know the background. The Lucie Interview: Be Fearless, Prominent Influencer Tells the Women in Crypto

An exclusive interview with Shiba Inu influencer Lucie about her inspiring journey in crypto and her advice to women in the industry

As a pre-eminent voice within the Shiba ecosystem and also in the broader community, Lucie (@LucieSHIB) commands immense respect and influence in the crypto space.

But for all the influence and power she wields today, Lucie did not start as a crypto executive. Like most other holders, her journey started when she bought Shiba Inu coins and eventually joined the community’s Discord. So what drove her transformation into a crypto influencer?

The Shib’s Yona Gushiken caught up with the Shiba Ecosystem and Shibarium Tech marketing specialist in the middle of a vacation to parse her remarkable journey for our readers. As part of this special edition celebrating the important role women play in our lives, community, and the world as a whole, we also asked Lucie about her views on key issues like inclusion and diversity in the crypto industry, which is sometimes derided for its "bro culture."

"Shytoshi (Kusama) completely charmed me with his passionate approach. After reading Ryoshi's Medium posts, I finally understood the quote 'If you want to help, do something yourself,’” Lucie told Yona.

Ryoshi, as many of our readers know, is the mysterious creator of Shiba Inu, who left the project after handing it over to lead developer Kusama.

Lucie said that reading the Medium posts by Ryoshi and Kusama helped her realize the kind of empowerment that the cryptocurrency industry can offer women. A professional photographer, she was driven by a desire to help Shiba Inu realize the potential of the "One Cent Dream" and got herself actively involved in the community.

"Shytoshi later asked me to join the team, and I met all the wonderful people like Shibarium_ Someone Smart, Xander, and Ragnar. We had fun and were building for Shiba Inu, actively pushing for its adoption and listings. I'm very proud of our community and all the achievements," she shared.

"In the male-dominated crypto industry, I believe we can foster greater diversity by creating a more welcoming environment for women. It's important to actively reach out to women and make them feel included and valued in the industry.

“This means providing equal opportunities for women to advance their careers and ensuring that their voices are heard and respected. By implementing initiatives that support and uplift women in crypto, we can create a more diverse and inclusive community where everyone has the chance to thrive," Lucie said.

Encouraging Women: The Challenges They Face

"We can empower women in crypto by inspiring confidence, providing tailored support, fostering inclusivity, offering mentorship, and encouraging leadership roles."

Lucie acknowledged that women in crypto face numerous challenges, including gender bias and unequal access to opportunities. But she is optimistic that these hurdles could be overcome through advocacy for equal representation, cultivation of supportive networks, and mentorship.

The crypto community, she said, should "confront and condemn misogynistic behavior and remarks unequivocally" and implement clear policies against harassment and discrimination, while actively promoting diversity and inclusion initiatives to create a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Crypto offers an ideal platform for women to demonstrate their management capabilities and drive innovation.

On Mentors and Guides

“In my journey in crypto, I've been fortunate to receive mentorship and guidance from a diverse range of individuals, and their insights have profoundly influenced my professional growth and development.”

To promote more leadership roles for women, Lucie suggested actively seeking diverse talent, implementing tailored mentorship programs, and fostering an inclusive culture.

"Crypto offers an ideal platform for women to demonstrate their management capabilities and drive innovation."

“Communities like Shibarium and the Shiba devs have been a perfect example for me, but it's not just them. What's special about these communities is that they never treated me as just a ‘woman,’ but as a fellow human being. That's where I learned that I'm in the right industry, where I'm judged for my work, not my gender.”

The Evolving Big Picture

Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology present a "golden ticket" for women to engage with the tech industry in ways that were previously nearly impossible due to systemic barriers and biases.

Over the years, the industry has undergone a cultural transformation, moving away from an early male-dominated ethos toward a more inclusive and diverse environment.

Women like Lucie and several others like her have seized the opportunity to engage with the cryptocurrency boom and notched up significant achievements within the industry.

Crunching the Numbers

Still, a study by Forex Suggest published last year reveals stark disparities: only 6% of CEO roles in crypto are held by women, with men dominating 94% of senior executive positions. Beyond the CEO level, women occupy a mere 22.4% of leadership roles. An analysis of the top 50 cryptocurrency influencers on X reveals that just 7 are women, representing a mere 14% of the prominent voices that shape the public discourse of crypto.

Why It Matters

Lucie's story is a testament to the transformative power of cryptocurrency not just as a financial tool but as a platform for empowerment and change. Her journey from an enthusiast to a respected figure in the crypto community illustrates the potential for women to break barriers and excel in this dynamic field. Through advocacy, mentorship, and a commitment to diversity, the crypto industry can continue to evolve into a space where everyone, regardless of gender, can thrive and contribute to its growth and innovation.

"There is nothing that can stop us if we are true to ourselves. Good breeds good, and positivity attracts positivity. Be fearless," Lucie summed up.

Digital Intimacy Redefined

OnlyFans, a platform known for monetizing intimate content, has blurred the lines between personal connections and transactional relationships. Relationship coach Abel Keogh says this has set unrealistic standards for physical appearance, lifestyle, and relationship dynamics, leading to confusion and mistrust among those seeking deep and meaningful connections. Intimacy commodification not only complicates dating but also impacts long-term relationships, potentially undermining the foundation of trust and mutual respect.

Keogh, who has authored four relationship guides and two memoirs about overcoming loss and moving forward, emphasizes the critical role of open and honest communication in addressing the challenges posed by OnlyFans and similar platforms.

“Ultimately, such behavior, which involves hiding one's standards and not enforcing them, hurts both parties by prolonging a relationship that is not going anywhere in the long run,” Keogh points out. â€œIt is also essential to respect each other's choices and boundaries, even if they lead to difficult decisions regarding the relationship. If participation in or consumption of OnlyFans content is indeed a dealbreaker for one partner, it is crucial to acknowledge and honor that boundary, even if it means ending the relationship.”

The societal perceptions and stigmas surrounding platforms like OnlyFans complicate the dating dynamic. But he recommends confronting and addressing the stigma head-on, fostering an environment of mutual respect and consent.

“Participation in or consumption of sites like OnlyFans harms, damages, and ultimately destroys relationships. I’ve talked with many broken-hearted men and women whose self-image and confidence are shattered once they discover their partners' use of such sites behind their backs. This leads to trust issues and makes them more hesitant to date because of their experiences. People don’t want to get burned twice.

“You are not doing yourself or your date any favors by hiding something that will eventually come to light. By concealing your activity or involvement, you’re indicating to your date that you don’t respect them or their values,” he warns.

There is nothing wrong with walking away from a relationship where you're not treated like number one.


Relationship Tips

Keogh, who has been happily married for two decades, has some important advice about dating and forging strong relationships:

But it is also important that you are ready to enforce your own red lines. “You deserve to be with someone who can give you his or her entire heart and not share intimate parts of themselves with strangers online. There is nothing wrong with walking away from a relationship where you’re not treated like number one,” Keogh says.

“I'm trying so hard not to get super upset while sharing this, but if I'm being honest, my mental health since I've started this has just slowly, like, been on such a decline,” the OnlyFans model admits, adding, "But if I'm being so honest, that really is like, the only upside to doing it. Within the hidden depths of the internet, cybercriminals have started peddling advanced, plug-and-play kits designed for online fraudsters aiming to refine their deceptive strategies. Dubbed DeFi Savings, these kits provide an easy entry point into the rapidly expanding realm of decentralized finance (DeFi), enabling scammers to execute their increasingly complex crypto love scams, widely recognized as "pig butchering schemes."

A Sophisticated Blend of Technology and Deception

A report by cybersecurity firm Sophos revealed the novel scam, which is an emerging threat on the cybercrime horizon being marketed as an off-the-shelf comprehensive kit.

Like the age-old pig butchering scam, Defi Savings hinges on swindlers forging personal ties with their targets while leveraging the credibility of well-established cryptocurrency apps, exploiting their trusted status to lower victims' defenses. Considered a sophisticated evolution from the liquidity mining frauds identified in 2022, the report described Defi Savings as an ingenious blend of the playbook of fabricated romance and friendship, a hallmark of the pig butchering operations, with the technological nuances of smart contracts and mobile cryptocurrency wallets.

Navigating the Trap: The Anatomy of the Defi Savings Scam

First, malicious actors will build a relationship with their target and develop it until it blossoms into a personal intimate online relationship. Then the victim will be lured into investing in what is presented as a "DeFi savings opportunity." This involves downloading an authentic cryptocurrency wallet app and then navigating to a malicious web address provided by the scammer.

Opening this web page grants the fraudsters the means to infiltrate and usurp funds from the victim's wallet, as detailed by Sophos. “They do not require crypto funds to be deposited into a wallet controlled by them, or wire a deposit to them, so the victim has the illusion of having full control over their funds. Until the moment that the trap is sprung, the victims’ cryptocurrency deposits are visible in their wallets’ balances, and the scammers even add additional cryptocurrency tokens to their accounts to create the illusion of profit,” said Sophos X-Ops principal threat researcher Sean Gallagher.

Pig Butchering, the Age-Old Fraud That Keeps on Evolving

Also known as "Killing Pig Plate" or "Sha Zhu Pan," pig butchering started in China around 2019 and proliferated during the pandemic, with fraudsters forging fake romantic relationships online via social media platforms or dating apps. These fake relationships guided unsuspecting individuals into sham cryptocurrency investments, culminating in significant financial losses. The term "pig butchering" is a metaphor on grooming victims for slaughter or, in this case, eventual financial exploitation.

Tallying the Toll: The Financial Fallout

Crypto fraud has emerged as a lucrative criminal enterprise, ensnaring victims on a global scale. In the United States, staggering losses of $2.6 billion were attributed to pig butchering and other crypto scams in 2022 alone, representing a twofold increase from the previous year, as disclosed by the FBI. However, the actual magnitude of these losses remains shrouded in uncertainty, as many victims opt not to report the crimes due to feelings of embarrassment and shame.

In December 2023, the U.S. Department of Justice charged four people, including three from Southern California and one from Chicago with fraud and money laundering in an alleged pig butchering scheme that fleeced victims of more than $80 million over 284 transactions. These legal actions, while crucial, underscore the challenges law enforcement faces in keeping pace with the rapid evolution of crypto fraud tactics.

But… It Goes Beyond Financial Impact

At its core, the pig butchering scheme preys on the innate human desire for connection and security. As victims fall deeper into the illusion, their emotional investment grows, blurring the lines between reality and fiction. When the truth behind the fabricated facade is unveiled, the repercussions reverberate far beyond the realm of finances. Betrayal, humiliation, and a profound sense of violation permeate the psyche of those duped by these cunning schemes. Victims grapple with feelings of shame and self-doubt, questioning their judgment and capacity to trust.

The aftermath of a pig butchering scam often leaves scars that extend beyond the individual. Relationships with family and friends may strain under the weight of disbelief and skepticism, as loved ones struggle to comprehend how their trust was manipulated.

Bottom Line: Don’t Let Love Blind You

As the DeFi sector continues to expand, the sophistication of scams like DeFi Savings highlights the critical need for investor education and regulatory vigilance. With the allure of high returns comes high risk, particularly from fraudsters adept at exploiting the decentralized, opaque nature of cryptocurrency investments.

For the unwary investor, the message is clear: proceed with caution, armed with knowledge and a healthy skepticism of too-good-to-be-true opportunities.
