We apologize for this as we were victims of our success (once again) and have fixed everything (aka scale up) for this second one. All 1,000 NFTs have been minted within 24 hours upon releasing the first edition.

Born out of the fervent desire to give back to the less fortunate, the Manny Pacquiao Foundation (MPF) was founded by Manny and his wife, Jinkee. Having experienced poverty firsthand, they understand the struggles faced by many, and their foundation serves as a beacon of hope for countless individuals worldwide.

Manny Pacquiao was elected to the Philippine Senate in 2016 and has persistently championed the cause of the impoverished and disadvantaged. Despite the broader reach of the Senate, constraints such as limited government funding and bureaucratic constraints have hindered his efforts. This led to the establishment of the foundation.

Fighting for Change

Manny's love for boxing extends beyond the sport itself; it's about the joy it brings to others. He's channeled this passion into selfless acts of giving, having donated a staggering one-third of his career earnings to charitable causes.

Shaping a Brighter Future for Girls with the #GirlsGotThis Initiative

The Manny Pacquiao Foundation is partnering with organizations like CAMELEON and FundLife to make a difference in the lives of young girls through the #GirlsGotThis project, aiming to secure $530,000 for their initiatives. This includes raising $330,000 for the rehabilitation of victims of sex trafficking and abuse and $200,000 for their education.

Additionally, they seek to restore the Negros Center Land Rehabilitation, assist 10,000 vulnerable young girls aged 5-16 with educational safe packs, and build a gymnasium for the empowerment of sexual abuse survivors. They are currently in the process of raising funds for that.

How I Got My Crypto Blocked Twice (Through an Exchange Hack and Liquidation Process) + Top 5 Guidelines to Avoid My Mistakes

This is the story of how someone who was once a crypto newbie learned things the hard way so you don't have to.

Now that he has advanced in the ranks as a crypto whiz – a fellow Shibizen at that! – he shares his experience in his own words and shows us how to navigate the pitfalls and complexities so you don't fall into the traps of hackers and scammers.

Besides, we all start somewhere, don't we?

The Backstory

I will start by saying that this is not related to Mt. Gox, which is another exchange based in Japan that followed the same pattern as the one I am about to describe. I am a random Shiba enthusiast who happens to work for this magazine, and this is my story.

Back in 2017, I was a young crypto wolf trying as many exchanges as possible, and my favorite hobby was to research and venture into the latest “huge potential” altcoin. That led me to try out around 10 CEXs, including Kraken, Coinbase, Bitfinex, Poloniex, Binance, and more, and end up signing up for an exotic CEX.

In early 2018, I created an account on Cryptopia, a New-Zealand based crypto exchange, which ended up liquidating in 2019 after a $25- to $30-million hack which stole currency then worth about 15% of all clients’ funds.

The total assets were worth about $170m (at the time of the hack). The most reported coin hold on the exchange were $Doge, $BTC, and $ETH and had 800,000 account holders with a positive coin balance.

I signed up for Cryptopia because it was one of the only exchanges where you could find altcoins such as $DOGE, $IOTA, $VET, and $ETN. I originally signed up to make a quick ICO (“Buy the rumor, sell the news”) for $ETN and I ended up making $300 out of it. But I had brought $1000 to the exchange to buy various altcoins.

What happened since then?

Grant Thornton, a worldwide audit firm with three offices in New Zealand, took over the liquidation process after a judge's ruling.

After four years of liquidation, not a single account holder has gotten their crypto-money back despite the accountancy firm spending $20.3m on the liquidation, including $5.78m on its own fees and $3.4m on legal fees. Grant Thornton was given the green light to sell customer funds to cover their own expenses.

The liquidators set up processes for the registration of claims and verifying the account holders’ identities. The latest step involved account holders agreeing with their balances. By the end of November last year, 72% of users contacted had confirmed their balances but are still waiting to get their crypto back.
I am still hard HODLing some $BTC and probably some others altcoins that I forgot about.

The liquidator gives a report once every four months, which basically says the same thing: “Wait and you might see your funds someday.”

A big group of ex-users gathered on Telegram https://t.me/CryptopiaHacked and are trying to coordinate actions against the veryyyy lengthy process that the liquidation firm is making them endure at their expense.

It is just another example of how startups and legacy auditing companies can mess with their users and take advantage of local policies and other “legal” means to achieve their goals.

Now that you’ve heard the story, let’s see what you should learn from my past mistakes.

1. Keep the majority of your crypto in cold storage (hardware wallets) or hot wallets (e.g., MetaMask, Keplr, Phantom, Rabby), but keep them away from interacting with dApps.
   You should have one HOT wallet dedicated to third-party interactions with smart contracts (NFT minting, DEX, bridge…) and dApps you are interacting with.
2. You should have one or multiple COLD wallets (can be cold storage or self-custodial wallets) dedicated to holding all of your staked tokens, LPs, or just HODL assets. Keep the seed of that wallet secure in an external hardware as a safeguarding measure. This wallet should only interact to transfer assets with your hot wallet.
3. Be very careful with the exchange you use for on/off ramp, and try not to keep your assets on them. It can be convenient for multiple reasons (e.g., earning opportunities, high liquidity, ease of use…) but the risk will always be there for hacks, rug pulls, regulator shutdowns…
4. Keep all of your usernames, passwords, and seed phrases in an external hard drive. Some Cryptopia customers reported not being able to claim their crypto balance because they forgot their usernames or passwords.
5. Research and stay in touch with the latest updates (good and bad) from the exchanges or dApps you are using, even if FUD can be fake or exaggerated. Most of the time, it comes from legitimate concerns regarding an entity.
